I was shooting portraits using only light from a bay window. It was an overcast day. No direct sunlight. Settings were ISO 800 at f/4.0 at 1/30 shutter.

Your Mom looks like Diane Keaton. The shot looks good with the exception of her left arm being a lot "lighter" (almost blown out) than the rest of the shot.

This is the type of light you want to use. You just need a reflector to pot some light into her eys and it would be great. Try using something white to reflect some light. My avatar was done the same way with window light and one reflector.

wonderful capture. :thumb I love the dynamic lighting. I think it could use bit of crop on the right side though I am not sure how far I would go.

This light is very easy on the eyes, and I feel her expression and pose look natural. I agree that a reflector would take this up a notch, but it's a very pleasing portrait.
