I found that turn 4 can be one of the better areas of the infield @ PPIR to shoot... when you don't have a media pass. :wxwax

All trackside shots were made with an older MF Tamron 300/2.8 @ f8...

I'm interested in trying some racing photos sometime, so a technical quetsion - does your AF keep up with the bikes, or do you manually focus and shoot as they come into range?

[Edit - whoops, just read your other thread and saw that the tamron is a manual focus lens... ]

Yep... MF only. I did find that with this lens tracking something, not moving horizontally, was hit-n-miss and only ~10% of the shots were unusable. As far as coming thru the corner, once I had a focus at a certain range, bursts of 3 improved to ~50%. I suspect your Minolta's will perform well, with enough range on the glass.
