I've created a category to store all my old galleries, but do not want them to be viewed by the public. Is there a way to hide a category or password protect it without having to go through every single gallery?:dunno

You need to set each gallery to unlisted.
You can set them individually, or you might try using SmugBrowser - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=47484&highlight=smugbrowser.
