OK, the worst you can do is yell at me electronically particularly as I'm doing the multiple question thing again. I've cruised the Forums looking for solutions, but can only find bits and pieces that aren't necessarily related, but seem to answer some of my questions.

Here goes, and this for the most part, deals with my first attempt at a Guestbook:

The most embarrassing question is that everybody is referring to .gallery_xxxxxxx as if they knew where to find this number. I don't really know where to locate it.
How to go directly from Homepage to Guestbook. Right now I have to go to Gallery then to Guestbook
How to get rid of the "To foil spammers, enter this code" scenario
Get rid of Slideshow on Guestbook page
Change Link: to Email:I have seen the sites that have this sort of setup, so I know it's possible. Thanks in advance for any patient help with this

ps. Just noticed that I posted this in the Regular Forum as opposed to the Customization Forum. I'll try and repost there. Sorry about that

ps. Just noticed that I posted this in the Regular Forum as opposed to the Customization Forum. I'll try and repost there. Sorry about that Replace your bio with this. Adds in your email as a link and a link to your
guestbook. For the guestbook under customize gallery set the gallery to
unlisted so it won't appear in the galleries box.

Small background on what I've done photographically. I started with my parents' Kodak Brownie (when they weren't looking) and bought my first 35 mm camera, a Ricoh, with my first serious paycheque back in 1953. I've never looked back nor stopped buying since.<br>

I belonged and participated in one camera club in Oshawa back in the Sixties. Even though I didn't win too many competition ribbons and trophies, I had really great sideburns, moustache and tie-died, polyester, bell-bottom pants.<br>
<br>
Over the years I semi-professionally did weddings, portraits, catalogues and public relations photography ( needed the extra bucks to buy more stuff ) . When it started to become a "Job" and not a hobby, it became only half the fun, so I "retired".<br>

If to go to any page look in the browser address or location bar and you will
see the link to the gallery. The red part is what you are looking for.

For the gallery number, go to a gallery. Then look in the URL bar. The gallery number is the part in red:

http://andymccrawphotography.com/gallery/7157527_dEJ8p#465055504_S4diW

To go directly to Guestbook, most people add a navbar (http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1932803) and put a link in the navbar that goes directly to the guestbook URL.

If you want people to leave comments, you can't get rid of the captch that foils spammers. That's built in to Smugmug, no way to bypass it.

To clean up several things in your guestbook, add this CSS:

.gallery_7311462 #slideshowButton,
.gallery_7311462 .albumNav,
.gallery_7311462 #breadCrumbTrail
{display:none;}

And, I would suggest that you add a caption to your image in the guestbook (it will display to the right of the image) that says something about you and invites people to leave a comment.

I don't know what you mean by "Change Link: to Email:".

Please don't double post entries - you would be better off putting a request in the Place requests to moderators thread in the Dgrin Forum Support forum to have the post moved.

When you double-post like this you make double work for the folks who help out here.

John,

It's amazing how quickly you can get a really, great response when you post to the correct Forum. Thanks kindly for your help.

I was embarrassed to ask about the Gallery Number, never mind "what's a breadcrumb?". I did attempt to find out the answers to these questions, but if you do a search on those items, you can come up with a gazillion posts without really knowing which one contains the similar dumb question.

Which leaves me to believe that there has to be central repository of "Well, it's bloody obvious" items such as Gallery Number and Breadcrumb, but I've been unable to find it. So far.

By "Change Link to Email" I was referring to beneath "New Gallery Comment" there are the boxes for
Name: and Link:. I wanted to, as I see it now, change "New Gallery Comment" to possibly "Enter your Comments Here" and have it display "Email:" as opposed to "Link:".

I'm positive that I've seen these referred to in other posts, so I shall go searching. With respect to the Spam thing, I thought that I'd gone to a couple of the site samples to add comments and nothing came up re the Spam. Is it because they were Pro sites?

Anyway, working on a SmugMug site is worse than trying to just eat one peanut or potato chip. You just can't help but going back for more.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,

It is possible to change the phrase "Link" to "Email". The problem is that this will then display people's email addresses in the clear in your public guestbook. That will open them up to spam harvesting bots and people signing your guestbook may end up getting a lot of additional spam because of this. I would not suggest doing that. Unfortunately, the spammers of the world have made things like this a lot more difficult.

Thanks John, I guess you have a really good, but unfortunate point. I personally, haven't tried using it yet, and now don't want to test this, but, isn't it possible that someone may inadvertantly type in their email address, or will that box not accept it?

I'm sure they could type in their email address if they wanted, either in that box or in the body of the comment. But, if they do it under those circumstances, then it's their responsibility rather than yours. They know these are public comments.

Good point. I can get into enough trouble on my own without leading others astray,
