Shot with D700, auto ISO (ranged from 1800 to 6400 on some shots) 1/640-1/1000, 2.8 with the 70-200 and a few with the 300 2.8. I have even more respect for mike mac with his 300mm BB shots after trying to do wrestling with this lens!

10 Butts are ok, when it;s your son's and he's on his way to a win by pin. So fast that dad only got 5 pics of the whole match, and this was the best (the refs butt was in a few of the others!)

I want those lights at my rink! :D

As always, good composition and exposure.

Question: Is the skin color on some of the wrestlers on the pink side?

http://michigankellys.smugmug.com/photos/468535582_2mSDK-S.jpg
I do know that people turn pink under exertion, but don't know if it's a color cast or the nature color of the skin, if, it's because they're holding on to each other and restricting oxygen. :dunno But the guy in the background is also on the red-color side of things...

some of it is the reflective light (school colors are red and white) The pick come from exertion, and friction on the mat. Look at same pic and check out the leg skin color...

ooh, I love this one. So are you like lying on the floor with a 300mm lens? 50 ft away?

Tim - I wish gymnastics venues had these new T81 fluorescent lights since no flash is allowed.

Love the shots.

Our HS is building a new gym and I will be sure to bring up the lighting to the school board. thanks for the suggestion:D

Congrats to your son on his pin!

These are great. Did you use a noise ninjia or any PP on them?

At our HS, we turn off all the lights in the Gym and put one giant spot light over the mat. Last year was great. It gave off a "natural" 300 effect (the movie) ...

This year, the new light does not produce anything worth while, so I had to strobe all season and with all the outlets not working except one, it was up the ladder, down the ladder every match.

Nice job by you.

I haven't run into the spotlight approach yet, thank God. No NN at all on these, just a crop and sharpen.

Thanks!
