Great photo! Quick question I have been wondering about and haven't spent the time to research...

How do you know the proper size in pixels or otherwise to prepare for future printing? For instance your 12x36 shot or if I need to crop something for a traditional size 4x6 or 5x7?

hmm i like the 3:1 aspect ratio. I might steal that idea. it gives more of the wave and throws away all the unnecessary stuff like the sky.

What is HDR? Nice improvement.
It is the process of combining a number of photos shot at different exposures. The one I did I started out with one shot that was processed to get the exposure correct as shot. Than I made 8 copys of the first shot and lowered or raised the exposure in aperture buy 1/2 stop each. I ended up with 9 total exposures of -2, -1.5, -1, -.5, 0, +.5, +1, +1.5, +2. In a program called Photomatrix pro I combined the 9 images into one. There are way to many settings in the program to explain but it gives you a much higher dynamic range photo as the final product.
