Ok, I may as well get all of these off of my chest in one fell swoop instead of nickel and diming your valuable time. And, believe me, I have gone trolling through this fabulous forum, but my "searches" don't quite narrow things down to what I'm looking for.
1. I want to remove the title "Gallery Categories" from my front page. I think it's redundant.
2. I want to be able to move my bio box closer to the top of the screen. I've already broken the "thou shalt not copy code if you don't know what you're doing" commandment and ended up with coding egg on my face.
3. I want to be able to change the background color of my bio to be the same as those in the galleries.
And I promise to leave you folks alone for at least a week if you can help me with this.
Thanks in advance,
brandofamily

From previous postings, I'm guessing that your site is: http://andymccrawphotography.com. Please put it in your dgrin signature so we don't have to hunting for your site in order to help you.
Add this CSS to get rid of the text "Gallery Categories":
.homepage #categoryTitle {display:none;}
Your bio box is being held down because of the way your header is working. What are you trying to do with the header? How do you want it to look?
Right now because they are both divs, the second div is forced to a newline which pushes everything down. If you make them both <span> instead of <div>, you can still format them like you have, but they won't be forced onto new lines and you can style them just like regular text.
Your photo galleries have a black background and so does your bio. What background color do you want for your bio?

John and Anthony, I'm obviously suffering from the early stages of "newbiness", but I can in time be retrained, starting with
The addition of my site addresses
Commenting and dating all lines being added/changed to CSS & HTML so I can go back and not only understand what I'm doing, but also be able to trace any progress.
John, with respect to your much welcomed answers:
1. The opening Header scenario "Photography by: Andy McCraw" was just another ongoing attempt on my part to keep my site super simple and to try not to detract from photos. I'm not in the professional sales game and therefore do not need the same bells and whistles ( yet ) that some of those other super looking sites show. If I can get this going, I'll go into cute coding mode, AFTER reading all of the tutorials first, sometime in the future.
It now looks like this:
<span id="AGM_Header01">photography by:</span>
<span id="AGM_Header02">Andy McCraw</span>
2. The Bio comments, such as they are, are in a box with a black (#0000 ) background
3. The Gallery photos are also in a box with a black (#0000 ) background
4. The Category photos are in a box with a "grey?" ( #404040 ) background
5. I was hoping to change the Bio, Gallery and Photo boxes to a ( #404040 ) background
And, while I'm on a roll and hopefully haven't pushed my luck too far, I'd like to accomplish the following, unless of course you tell me to go study my tutorials first:
1. On my Home Page it tells me how many Galleries there are per Category. Is it possible to get rid of this, as again, I feel that it's extraneous. Nobody cares how many galleries I have, they just want to know that there are some that pertain to Travel or whatever.
2. Never confuse the audience with more information than necessary!
3. On my galleries pages it says: AndyMcCraw > Family, which of course is needed in order to get back to the Home Page.
Is there anyway that I can change to something more friendly like "Home" without blowing everything else out of the water?
4. Directly beneath in the Galleries Box, it says "Family Galleries". Is there any way that I can get rid of the word "Galleries"?
And finally, I promise, can the Gallery name be displayed under the photo instead of along side? I have the horrible feeling that as I add more Galleries, it's going to get messy. I didn't want to add anything else until such time that I cleaned up my current act.
Thanks again for all of your help,
jfriend

A lot of questions at once. You make it kind of daunting to try to answer them all. Let's take some of them this first pass:
You can start with this CSS to change backgrounds:
#bioBox, #categoriesBox {background-color:#404040 !important;}
Use this to remove the gallery count:
#categoriesBox .miniBox p.description {display:none;}
For your header, change your custom header to this:
<div id="myHeader">
<span id="AGM_Header01">photography by:</span>
<span id="AGM_Header02">Andy McCraw</span>
</div>
And then add/change this CSS:
#myHeader {text-align:center;}
#AGM_Header01 {font-size: 22px; color: Blue;}
#AGM_Header02 {font-size: 52px; font-family: Neuropol, Comic Sans MS, Arial; color: Red; margin-left:20px;}

John,
Thanks ever so much for taking the time that you have in order to feed my need for simplicity of presentation. Your suggestions have been implemented and the effect is what I was looking for.
I realize that the loading all of those change requests into one post was, as you pointed out, daunting, but I had two reasons for that. First, I felt that they were all addressing the same scenario of appearance and secondly, in my numerous passes through the Forum, I noticed in one instance, a poster had posted five posts in a row. It was then pointed out to him that he should have gathered them altogether into one post for simplicity of answering the questions. You win some, you lose some.
I guess my last anal request for the sake of neatness, that is to move the Gallery names below the photos as opposed to the right can wait for another day. I'll be away from my computer for the weekend because I have to go down to our local wine growing area, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario, and force myself to go to two or three Ice Wine Tastings & Dinners. I'm not sure which keeps me going more, working on a computer or drinking wine. Actually, both together works.
Thanks again,
AGMCon

John,
This is just to follow up on my last reply before I took off. I just wanted to thank you again and to let you know that I've let a couple of folks in as to where my site is and they were quite impressed. I pointed out to them that I'd only gotten this far because of all the help that I received from yourself and all the other Smuggers.
I'm still hung up on the last item of moving the gallery names below the photos as opposed to alongside. I expect that it's going to get visually busy as I add more. Time will tell, and thanks again,

Thanks kindly, John. That did the trick. I had seen that code, but I was too much of a coward to throw it in and blow all else away. In retrospect, all I would have had to do is go back in and remove said code.
