We had a rapture release gathering today. Once again the Sky's were overcast
as it rained all morning. Had a few peaks of sun, and at just the right time.
Making the release into an event, the rapture center brought along some
resident birds that can't be released. I only got 2 pretty good release shots.
Maybe next time.

Just awesome Dave, really. The raptors are my favorite birds, and did you ever get some great shots here. All of them are excellent!!! I'm chomping at the bit to get out and get anything, nevermind ones as good as these.
Thanks for taking the time to share! :clap

Why take money, why not just swap lenses?
hehe. I am getting used to that lens, not used as much as my others, but afraid it would be very missed if I were to get rid of it.
I think it was my primary lens at the dog park. Everyone wants faster lenses, uh, huh, unless you gotta be inside, the DOF would kill me. Hurt me some the other day.
I love those photos of the raptors and the release. A great "throw" shot. Looks like about what I get with my egrets. A take off, barely off of the "ground", lucky to get one more, then my lens acts up. Now, I know it is my lens, nothing is my fault, and I just keep shooting.
How did you know about the raptor release. We have places that must release them, but I am clueless.

gingerThanks Ginger.
During the winter, Minnesota had an invasion of Great Grey Owls. The problem
was that the owls weren't used to cars, so about 100 of them ended up at the
raptor center. At one point the news shows said the center needed money.
We donated some money and ended up on their mailing list.
I think it may have been advertised also, but I didn't see the ads.

Thanks Harry.
The short version on why I bought a Canon. The sales rep at the local camera
store couldn't figure out how to do something on the D70. :scratch When I looked at
the Rebel, it's like I just knew what did what. :D That's the only reason why I
shoot with Canon.:wink

Lovely shots. Thanks for taking us along!
Do they radio tag the birds or just get them ready for release and let them
go?
I'm curious because Fish and Game here are tracking birds with radio tags.
Pretty funny to watch the trucks with huge antennas on the cab driving
around :D

Hi Ian.
I don't think they used any radio stuff. I think they were just leg banded.
Thanks for looking.

Wow Dave.........this is indeed an excellent series of images.
The biggest birds I ever see around here are Pelicans, they're not quite in the same catagory are they :rofl Birds of Prey are just so amazing to watch in flight, they have that Fighter Pilot Instinct about them don't they.
Thanks for sharing......... Skippy (Australia)
