Several years ago, my work buddies and I hopped on a plane to AK and
took a 500mi bike trip. What a hoot.
Since PF is thinking AK as well, I thought I'd prod a little :D
Coldclimb and Prezwoodz, feel free to chime in if ya want to.
But I promise not to give away your secrets :D

I have not forgotten our conversation at all Ian. Alaska still beckons - I want to ride a big pig - GS - to Ak. But I would also settle for a Jimmy 4x4 if I could bring all the camera gear I wanted to bring. It would be a very hard choice indeed.
I fished Ak in the early 90s', and need to return before I get too feeble.

The Ak DOT soaks the glaciers in Creme de Menthe to get that color!!
My son and I are riding 650's the first week in June in Albany Wyoming in the National Forest. Double track, fire roads and unpaved mountain passes. Whoo Haa!!! He is riding and orange 650 KTM and I opted for a Blue DR650.
Just a thought, Ian, but a 250HD will pull an enclosed trailer with pair of 650s in it easily. Be nice to have the best of both worlds in AK, wouldn't it?

Oh yes it would. Press the TOW/HAUL button and we're outta here :D
On the other hand, there's a guy that rents big pigs too. Speaking which, I
think I may need to get a new battery for mine :(

I like the big GS for covering long highway miles and for double track, but not for unpaved mountain passes.
I think a used van might make a great rig for shooting wildlife - slide the side door open as a blind with a camo drape in place or crawl up on the roof and shoot from the top ala Ansel Adams. Did you see the picture of Ansel Adams shooting from a platform bolted onto the top of his Woody station wagon in the Ansel Adams gallery shop?

I've been lucky enough to get up to AK twice for work. I'd like to go back in late Feb. or early March and focus on shooting. I love the haunting winter look.
