On my way out after swimming & diving practice noticed the gym was full of cheerleaders gathered for the SMAC (Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference) East Division Championships...so, never seen this before much less never photographed it, I took a few. It took a while to figure out what the heck they were doing.

Comments always welcome. :D

My oldest daughter did comp cheer for a few years, and this was the hardest thing I ever shot. Nicely done by you...

My daughter does competitive cheer and I have a very difficult time getting good shots.

This is one of the hardest to get good shots for and the lighting is usually awful. Just like trying to shoot basketball. But just a little bit of a heads up -- and it is not an easy thing to do but try to avoid the "crotch" shots as they are called. Not an easy thing to do but no one wants them anyway!!!!:clap

Thanks to all for your comments. :D

It WAS hard to get the shots because, not knowing the specific routines, I couldn't tell what was coming next and didn't know if they were going to do back walkovers, cartwheels or jump splits. :dunno

I'm thinking of recruiting some of these girls for my diving team next fall.:D

Competitive Cheer and Gymnastics is one of the main reasons I decided to take up photography. My daughter has been compteting for 6 years now and we have a competition in 6 hrs that I will be doing my first "real" attempt to capture. I rented a 70-200 2.8L non-IS for this to deal with the lighting. If I like it and everything turns out, I will be purchasing one. Last week with my kit lens, I filled 2 4gig cards, today, I am taking 3 8gig cards.... I will post a few once I get them downloaded for C&C.

I look forward to your shots. I have found that my 70-200 @f2.8, without flash, required at least 1600+ ISO in this gym. I am currently using my 50 1.8 @ 2.2 and my 85 1.4 @ 2.2, @ ISO 1250 for my indoor shots.

Good luck with the new lens.:D

John
