So I was about to write a utility to put GPS data in the EXIF info, but I see it has already been done about a million times. Which is nice.

So in the spirit of annoying Baldy with SmugMug suggestions, I'd like to suggest two ways that GPS info could be used in smugmug that might be cool:

1. Searching by lat/long. Find pictures near a spot of interest to you.

2. Links to terraserver. Get aerial views of where the pic was shot. Maybe overlay a bunch of pics in a gallery onto them, hyperlinked. OK, this might not be as compelling as search.

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. "GPS" is too small of a search term for VB.

doh!

here (http://wwmx.org/Links.aspx) is a links page on the topic. Am I the only one who finds this interesting?

Here (http://www.findatoilet.com/)is an important application of this technology.

I find it interesting, but my Canon's are not set up to use the data so I live without it.

One of Dizaveydoodog's links had a link to a great idea. It's an unusual digital clock. Each change of time is a new photograph, submutted by just plain folks.

It's great! Sample times:

Right now, most cameras don't use it, except maybe the D1H? But programs like location stamper from the wwmx site can take your EXIF'd jpegs and your GPS tracklogs and figure it out. I'm going to try it out later today.

Sounds interesting, let us know how it works out.

This reminds me of an old Styx song... "I've got tooooo much time on my hands, toooo much time on my hands......too much time on my hAaands!..too much time on my hAaands!..."
