I know I've seen this shot done before, but I came across a leaf in my backyard as the sun was setting and couldn't resist.

What a beautiful shot.
So has the leaf got a hole in it, or is the sun just shining behind it?
Nice little starburst you got there too :clap ....... Skippy :D

Just used a mini-screwdriver (what I happened to be holding) and poked a small hole in the leaf, then moved around ever so slightly till I saw a burst of light http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/yelrotflmao.gif

Nice capture! Is this hand held or did you use tripod and timer? My guess is the former. Either way it doesn't matter--it's an excellent image!

Just handheld, not much prep involved. Just had to move the leaf around until a small burst of sun came through, but not too much as to cause everything else to be too dark. I used a 24-105, the one above was at about 100mm, and took another one at 28 (below), but I think I like the close up better.

I agree, Chris--the first one you posted is better. Thanks for showing me how you did it.
