:dunno I'm certain that this is covered somewhere but being a complete dummy I'll ask it. I just realized that all of the images that I've uploaded to SM will not print because the files are too small. If I wanted to take advantage of selling prints and files how would I re-load my images to cover everything? bsvirginian:scratch

You can see the minimum file sizes on this help page - http://www.smugmug.com/help/print-quality.

:huh So would it be recommended to size all of my images to 1200x1600 so that they could be printed anywhere from wallet to 20x30. Is that going to take forever to upload? Then are the images cached somewhere to protect them from being borrowed by those that don't like to pay? If I have 1000 or so images it seems that it would take forever to upload.:scratch

bsvirginian For the best print quality, you should not resize your images at all. Just tweak them in post processing, save to JPEG level 9 or 10 and then upload - no resizing. Smugmug stores away your originals and, as long as you don't open access to them in your gallery options, nobody outside gets access to them except they are used by the lab when prints are ordered. Smugmug, then makes a whole bunch of web display sizes from what you upload and those smaller sizes are what is used for web display. You get the best of both worlds - prints made from a high resolution file to show maximum detail and smaller fast, loading images for web display.

As for the upload time, I just set uploads to go over night. I kick it off before I go to sleep and check on it in the morning. If it's a really big upload, I might do it over two evenings.
