Let me elaborate some more. She is a 6 month pregnant model. Who wants pregnancy shots for her portfolio. I want to do the shoot because it would be a new challenge. Anyone have any advice? Other than that I need to get over my fear of pregnant women. :dunno

"...fear of pregnant women"?! Are you kidding? Women are at their best in pregnancy! I regret I missed my wife's three pregnancies. I wasn't so deep into photography then (last one was ten years ago).

Never done it before but I think a search on the internet will come up with some beautiful shots that could give you some ideas. I've seen them around.

Good luck!

Other than that, wait for 2-2,5 months for the belly to grow and 'just do it'!!! It's a little awkward at first, but realise that YOU have to be the one to set the model at ease!! As much as she might want it, she is most assuredley more nervous than you are. It's really rewarding, I've done it only once, but wouldn't hesitate to do it again!

Good luck m8

Mick, Did I miss all of yoru yosemite photos? I have seen any of gus's either. OK I found some sites to look at I guess I just gotsta jump in. She's 6 months pregnant, the belly should be there by now right (keep in mind guys that I'm a single 25 year old guy up until know my main goal with pregnancy has been to not be the cause of it)?

LOL, same here about the pregnancy and age :D but still, she will have a very small belly when compared to the last weeks, then she'll be huge, as a figure of speech of course :lol

I've just arrived home yesterday, I'm currently copying off 1800 photos :rofl

In a few days I will have my first post :wink

Wait till she's about 8 months along, make sure she doesn't wear anything that has elastic that would leave marks on her skin. Make sure that she is well rested and has had a good meal before the shoot. These can be wonderful photographs to be cherished for a lifetime! Make her comfortable, and shoot away!! Be creative, these can be in as much or as little clothing as she is comfortable with. Mostly, pregnant women want to document that glow and the growing belly! Usually shot in the woman's home or on location in a beautiful garden, beach or lakeside. Also can be done in a studio but I find that too stiff and cold. Incorporate other children if she has any, her significant other and any other items she may wish to have included. (Her in a rocking chair, etc...)

Just for a suggestion, her significant other with their cheek against her belly is a good start. Do a search on the web for Maternity Portraits, you will get lots of good ideas!
Good Luck and have fun!

interesting this thread should come up. I'm preparing to do a shoot of my boss in a few more weeks (she's due June 28) and I'm really excited. I've been looking at a lot of google searches on the subject lately for a few ideas, but I know I want to do something "different." (don't we all?)

I know she wants b&w and I agreed since that tends to be kinder to the skin. Not all pregnant women have that "perfect skin" that you see in so many maternity shots, in fact, I'm usually quite amazed when I see that and i think, how did they do that?

I'm going to play with some selective color......I know her mom (that recently passed away) has a beautiful garden right next door so I'd like to use some of those in the shots, too.

Also trying to think of some way to incorporate her mother's presence in the shots as well. I'm thinking maybe some of her mom's favorite flowers and perhaps she can come up with more ideas as well.

good luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with! :D

One thing I liked very much:

pregnant woman in white clothing with candles by her sides...

That produced an awesome result. I'm afraid I can't share the pictures with you at the womans request....
