I have just started to upload some of our family movies, the original files are either .mp4 or.mov. The files upload just fine but when viewing these via my SmugMug site the videos are formatted as Quicktime.

Question is: Is it possible to have SmugMug play my videos as Flash and not quicktime?

From your software (Aperture), it looks like you are probably on a Mac. I believe that Smugmug renders into QuickTime on the Mac because of some performance problems with Flash and HD video on the Mac.

Do you know that if I upload a .flv will SmugMug still convert this to QT?? If it's a Smugmug supported format, Smugmug will convert it for you. They actually convert it to H.264 and then generate the shell that triggers either flash or QT to play it.

Smugmug's list of supported formats is here: http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Video+Formats.
