The Nikon D200 is still a very responsive camera and does well in good light or with appropriately used flash. I think that the D80 also has the focus screw mechanism and a very similar imager to the D200.

A more substantive jump would be the D300. This is a newer imager technology and it does very well in lower light and higher ISOs.

I believe that both the D200 and D300 will also correctly mount and meter older AI manual focus lenses, where the D80 will not meter (if that's important. Also the D80 uses SD cards if that's important.)

IMPO, yes... the jump to a 200 will seem sigificant and it is. There is so much more control, or if you want... as simple as you need. Just remember there is more to learn with a more advanced body, but once the curve is obtained the shots just get sweeter. I've seen used 200's running in the $600 range, and usually worth every penny.

Go fur it!!! :thumb You'll luv it with that 50...
