I want to get better about tagging my photos. But I understand that some of the tagging / keywording in iPhoto is not genuine IPTC tagging. That is, I want my tags to stay with the photos, whether or not I say with iPhoto in years to come - and especially as I transfer the pictures to Smugmug.
What is the most extensible way + easiest way to tag batches of photos, starting hopefully from iPhoto?
Thanks.

Hi,
This help page (http://www.smugmug.com/help/keywords-tags)explains keywording. You can add keywords to your photos and, when you upload them, the keywords will be uploaded as well.

If you use the MacDaddy uploader (http://www.smugmug.com/help/macs) in the iPhoto mode, it will also keep your iPhoto captions and keywords.
Alternatively, you could also give the iPhoto export plugin a try. You can find it on our tools page (http://wiki.smugmug.net/display/SmugMug/Hacks+and+Apps).
