I am not trying to be a wise guy. Just looking for one.
I had someone in Germany say he "found" one for me. When I asked if he saw it with his eyes and held it in his hand he said "no, but the store owner is ordering it".
We all know the rest of that story!

Charlie,
This is an amazing lens that is very hard to come by. I would not be surprised if you end up paying 4K for it. Good luck.

LOL Gary,
Hey, it was an old lens. He had it almost 2 months :lol Besides, after Yosemite, it didn't have any good pics left in it anyway :lol4

Steve have you checked out the auction on fm. We have a pretty good discussion going on in regards to Andys mental health. I still say its ADD cause he didn't have the other symptoms that would go along with say Bipolar disorder but there was a vote for a mood disorder.

Since he's geeky with the camera, I'd throw out Asperger's Syndrome (http://users.wpi.edu/~trek/aspergers.html) as Andy's prob... Was this ever considered?

If this is not enough to get canon off their *ss to produce or get someone elzeiss er.. else to produce a wide angle worthy of their s models nothing will. They went all out with the 300 2.8 and 400 2.8 primes with outstanding optics. Surely their engineers have realized for a couple years their wides don't get it at all with FF sensors. Their brisk sales of $8000 bodies and the way these 21 distagons are being worshiped should belay any worries they might have about marketing. A wide that comes very close to or matches optically the distagon with auto focus and metering would be swept off the shelves even at $2000 a unit.

Maybe it is foolish for me to apply logic to how "business" descisions are made.

charlie, i believe you are right. the 14L was introduced in 1991 - over 14 years ago! there's got to be a new wide prime in their r&d that can match the resolving power of their new ff sensors. and soon. my bet is on an 18 or 21mm prime. superb optics. probably in the $1500-$1800 range each.

btw - there's another zeiss distagon 21mm f/2.8 over on fm now, asking price: $4500 :uhoh i simply cannot believe the prices these things are going for... i never dreamed i'd get $3950!!!

I have a second copy of this lens. I love this lens so much that I wanted to make sure I had a backup version. However, at 4500 I may think about selling it.
