I'm curious as to what people are using on here. Not specific models, but concentrating on Brand. And instead of posting 40 pages of what people are using, here is a Poll:

Voted. I bet the winner will be some amorphous blob that will rule the world.

I have not had a singular camera since I was around 6 years old. :dunno How about allowing multiple choices?

Apparently Pentax does not exist. :dunno

Yeah I'm trying to be able to edit the poll, but it's not letting me. Soo...I'd put multiple choice, and Pentax in, but... Yeah.

Sorry for not putting it in, I was trying to pay attention in class and was rushing through the poll. Anybody know why you can't even view the results? It just says "will be available shortly".

I can probably change the poll to include Pentax and multiple choices, if you want. Poll results are set up now to be visible at a specific number of days after they are started. I may be able to change that as well if you give me a timetable (2 weeks for instance.)

Yes Pentax and multiple choices would be good. Thanks. Also, I'd ideally like the poll results to be viewable whenever some one clicks the "View Poll Results" button, that's how it's set up on my other forum.

Why don't I have access to edit my own poll? Just curious...

Thanks in advance for the help on the poll options.

I voted. I could guess the top 2 brands you'll get having done research on the top 2 manufacturers last year for a paper I wrote when I was still in grad school :) I also learned doing research for that to be careful where you ask... I had asked some folks at PotN to do my research as well as folks here... and obviously the PotN folks severely tilted my brands stats towards Canon.

Are you just doing this poll for the fun of it?

For the most part yes. Although the reason that I started it is because I was looking through the EXIF's for the #14 challenge that is happening now, and it seems that there were a lot of D300's (and Nikon in general) in comparison to other brands.

I expect Canon and Nikon to be the overwhelming top two, but just curious as to the other and by how much they are "in the lead" by.

If memory serves me correctly, when I wrote my Canon vs. Nikon paper last year... I believe Canon and Nikon each hold 40 something percent of the market... leaving less than 20% over for the rest of the vendors out there. This may have changed since I last wrote that and if you want more specifics I can look up the paper I wrote and get the reference from where I grabbed that.

That sounds about right. You don't need to go through the hassle, I'm not using this information for anything aside from my own knowledge. Thanks for the offer though.

Sorry, I don't have the ability to make the poll visible except after a number of days. (At least I don't think so.) I have set the poll to expire in 10 days after start, unless you want that changed.

We use the polls to help judge some of the challenges and such and the nature and behavior of the polls was changed for that purpose.

Rats, I can't make the poll multiple choice either. Sorry, one choice at a time I'm afraid.

Well that makes sense, but you'd think it'd be on a per poll basis. Hmmm... I know it's possible to set up like that as the other forum I'm on is the same layout or company or whatever as this is soo... Might need an Admin to make that change. As well as the multiple choice thing. Should be able to edit my own poll though...:scratch

Well thank you for tryin on that stuff.

Now question, once the 10 days is up and the results become viewable, is the poll still open to be voted on?

The poll will close after 10 days and the results will be visible but voting closes with the end of the poll. The thread itself continues normally.

Hmm. I wish they'd disable that feature. I don't like it much for this application. Obviously it's good for the contests and such, but for a general poll like this.

Oh well. Such is life.

Apparently not 'till 10 days after I opened it, which would be the 20th. Lame.

I wish they could just keep it open and show the results live. My other vBulletin forum does that.

Anyways...yeah. The 20th.

It used to be that way, but it was decided that this format is better for the DGrin Challenges, and it has to be set the same way for the entire forum.

Yeah it makes total sense for the challenges, it'd just be nice if it could be something that the creator of the poll selects as an option. Any standard poll would be viewed in real time, and if the admin or mod creates a poll for a challenge, he/she could select a button that sets it to not viewable until after the challenge. That'd be nice. It's gotta be possible.

I see the results fine on WindowsXP/FireFox3.

Very interesting. Ithiught Nikon was going to be closer than that to Canon.Well, it depends on how you look at it. Digital Grin seems to always have had a higher percentage of Canon users than average for some reason. Not sure what to attribute that too.

I'm sure other forums have it the other way around, or closer together.
