Best time of day to shoot a building, although tonight's skies weren't clear enough, and tonight's photographer wasn't skilled enougn.

Waxy,
Nice job on both of them. I think you under estimate your skills.
The second is pretty cool because it's a reminder that even though the
building is new, the reaper is waiting...nice composition!

Hi Lynn. That would have been between 8 and 8:30pm or so. The sun was well out of the sky. But for a while afterwards, there's a lovely dark blue cast that cameras capture really well on long exposures (although the bucket shot was only 2 seconds.) Works better when the sky is clear - that night was cloudy, didn't work quite as well.
Learned that from Patch29. :nod

One more dusky building. Guess I should change the name of the thread, now.

wxwax have you ordered a tilt-shift lens yet? Time to correct those converging lines. The colors are looking a better. I think a clear night will look a lot better, more electric blue.

Stop spending my money! I've given it a little thought. Maybe I should give it more thought - I do shoot a lot of buildings. I agree about the clear skies and electric blue. Maybe I should have electric blue skies on file, ready to layer into shots like this.

What time is this taken? Right after dusk?

:wave Hi Carlos. Yup, all were taken sometime between 7:30pm and 8:30 pm... the sun was below the horizon, although it was cloudy enough that the exact time of sunset is hard to measure. All the shots have at least one layer mask, as I combined different expoures to make the buildings/tree/bucket lighter and the sky darker.

So they are taken using a tripod and the doing bracketing?
I have to learn to do that technique :-)

Here you go, (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=392) tibu. The link is to a thread here describing how it's done. To use more than two exposures for layering, just do two to start with. When you're done, Flatten and add the next image, Flatten again and so on.
Incredibly useful technique. Can also be used for putting a bit of color back in B&W photos, assuming the original was in color.
