Hello. I am new to smugmug and am having trouble viewing video on my computer. I know this isn't a general smugmug problem, but I am hoping you super brainiacs can help me determine if this is my computer (and what to change) or a general issue.

I can view the help videos here on the smugmug website just fine. But when I try to view a video in my gallery or on someone else's gallery (including the sample thanksgiving video from the video sample page), I can see the video thumbnail, but when I click on the play arrow I only see a large black screen pop open. Nothing else. This is using IE7. I can view video on other websites (youtube, etc) with no apparent problems.

In FF everything works fine. But most of our family uses IE and I want them to be able to view the videos, too, that is the whole point of having smugmug.

I did make sure I have the latest flash player installed and did a test from adobe that I saw linked on another thread to make sure I have the latest one installed. That is all OK.

The gallery with the video on my page is: http://jayandholly.smugmug.com/gallery/6649403_nKbga#424443193_abjMt

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the video viewing. This is something that is a setting in IE that is blocking it. We just need to figure out what the setting is. There are also security applications that can cause problems. But they usually would effect both IE and FF.

Let start with something simple and see if it helps.

In IE:

1. Click on Internet Options in the Tools menu. The Tools menu has a gear icon on it.
2. Click on the Security tab.
3. Click on Trusted Sites.
4. Click on the Sites button.
5. Type the Web address *.smugmug.com into the textbox and click the Add button.
6. If necessary, uncheck the Require server verification (https://) box. Unchecking this box will allow you to add sites to the zone like SmugMug that don't use the https:// protocol.
7. Click the Close button to exit the Trusted Sites dialog box.
8. Click OK to exit the Internet Options dialog box.

Give that a shot and see if it helps.
