After talking to our landscape pro shooter at Yosemite, I'd have to say that the biggest issue is the negative space. Also, the subject is centered.

I know this is "one" tree... But, for some reason it makes me think "3"

It would be nice if it was offset. As is, it just doesn't grab me. Sorry.
