View Full Version : replace photo

I've noticed, lately, that when I've used the replace photo in a gallery option, the photo comes through looking a bit pixelated, which is strange since the exact photo is another gallery looking perfect. It looks like it's loading a low-res image as a replacement somehow. The info boxes show them to be the same photo. Am I missing something?
Here's an example:
I just replaced the photo in this gallery with an updated edit, and it doesn't look right:

Here it is in another gallery, looking fine:

There was a post from Andy a few days ago saying that Replace Photo currently has a problem and the replaced photo quality is not as good as it should be. I'm not sure what to do about it other than wait for them to fix or upload a new image (not replace) if that's an option.

Thanks for the update. Hmm...isn't the proof delay kinda dependent on this feature? I've got an order to send through. I hope I don't need to replace anything!

It's only the display copies that get affected, the original (which prints are made from) is still fine. But, yes if you HAVE to use replace photo for proof delay, then your display copies get downgraded. I hope they fix it soon. Worst case, you could use replace photo to satisfy the proof delay, then a short time later replace that photo with a newly uploaded copy.

John's right on both accounts. It's a bug, we'll fix it - and it only affects the display copies, not your originals and not what gets printed.
Sorry!

Hi, first post to Dgrin...apologies if anything's amiss in this post!
Just wanted to confirm that my prints will look okay after I do replace photo. I've just done two and the screen images look pretty degraded.
This one looks worse than the next one: http://sugarbushdesign.smugmug.com/gallery/6711734_ifc4t#429749433_MHz8f
http://sugarbushdesign.smugmug.com/gallery/6711734_ifc4t#429749508_NvcmF
Also, any advice on what to do with a large gallery? I had uploaded a wedding gallery with close to 1000 photos because I was relying on the proof-delay/replace photo. I have future clients coming to that gallery to decide whether or not to book me for next year and I'm concerned about the quality of image they'll be seeing. Is the best bet to redo the gallery with full-size images and just deal with the long uploading time, or any chance that the bug fix is on the horizon and I can wait it out?
Thanks in advance for any advice and help!

It's been a long time! If I post a picture, but want to change it, I need to use replace or the link is broken :(

Be careful, did this the other day, replacing a photo with another. The new
photo had the exif of the replaced photo.

Again I must ask, has the replace picture tool been fixed or are the smaller pictures still pixilated? The exif not being replaced is also a big problem. Not cool when someone replaces a picture and unknowingly lowers the quality of the smaller sizes and does not have correct exif data!

Replaced photos from last fall still look heavily compressed. Do I have to replace them again? I have a couple of hundreds like this.

I am checking on the exif problem for replaced photos. I am not sure yet what is going on. For the photos from last fall, chances are they will need to be replaced. I am not aware of something that would regenerate them automatically such as a cron job.

I just ran several tests using a couple photos adjusting the exif data, size, and other settings. So far I am seeing the exif, sizes, and the photos replace with no problems. The thumbnails look correct. If you are still seeing problems, please send me any details with URLS to the photos. I will be happy to take a look.

Hi docwalker,
Can't something more definite about the pictures be confirmed? I hate to have to squint at the pictures trying to decide if the quality is lower. Yesterday I replaced a picture and the "date modified" in the exif was not changed as Allen noted. I had to delete the picture and reload it to correct it.
Cheers,
