I have helped my wife set up a SmugMug account for her photo business. She is a good photographer, but I am the geek behind the rest. Can her account be set up with any sort of galleries (for personal use) invisible to people just browsing through,? I don't quite understand the Sharegroups either. Any advice on where to start?

In the customize gallery screen, you can set a gallery to be "unlisted" instead of "public". When a gallery is unlisted, it will not show in your homepage to the public, but will show to you when you or your wife are logged in. It's design is exactly for the problem you describe (personal use galleries).
