little soft maybe, but nonetheless a great capture and surprised you got focus at all, I know I keep trying all the time :D

Mallards can get up to 40 mph, so they aren't easy to catch. Good job.

I was driving to Canada the other day and moving about 50 mph right along side of two ducks... I was amazed at how fast those little suckers can fly. Not easy to capture for sure.

...the truth is that: this creek bank is very dense with plant growth and there are not that many places where you can stand on the bank for a clear shot. It just so happened that I was climbing to a vantage point on the base of a large fallen tree with my left hand down for support and the 20D being protected by the right hand when I heard these quackers coming overhead down the creek. I had just steadied myself when they became visable. No time to do anything but press the shutter release while shooting blindly from about waist high.
