i shot this handheld, with an infrared-modded canon digital rebel, canon 10-22 ef-s lens aboard. f/8, 1/320th second, iso 100. shot in raw, converted in adobe camera raw and processed in ps cs 2. lab curves adjustment, sharpening, and done.

Cool. Love how the infrared gives the waterfall a 3-D feel, I don't think you'd get the same sense of depth, of the offset of the waterfall from the cliff in a color shot. Why LAB for a shot that's B/W? What's the benefit of curves in LAB for a shot like that?

I love this shot Andy... Looks like another KPOTD is in the bag. Your other shots have been equally wonderful to see. You have given me ideas and perspectives to try.
peace.

I was interested in you saying handheld, so I looked for the EXIF F/8 1/320th sec is very different to stopping down with an IR filter. That is amazing. You are keeping the 300D obviously:):

This is so much fun seeing everyone's take on Yosemite. This shot is very contrasty on my monitor, but it sure makes the picture "pop." Great treatment for a magnificent view.

thanks david. i was trying somthing new, and infrared still has plenty of color data in the files ... i think i was able to make the tonal gradations much richer than i've been able to do before.... that's why i chose lab.

Very nice Andy :thumb :thumb Man, it's so crisp it almost cut my eyeballs.....lol
So where can I find some info on lab curves? Or, is it as simple as changing to Lab Color and using curves? And do you use a layer or do you adjust the original image?
Another shweetttttt shot :clap

Hey Andy,
WOW, I love the tones and the depth of contrast that have been in your yosemite ir shots.
Do you put this down to the camera or your post processing ?
Interested to know if a F717 would produce as good quantily image under the same circumstances.
Cheers,
David

Hey Andy,
Not to shabby there. The IR rigged Rebel seems to have done well. What I would love to see is the same picture in B&W and then compare it to the IR version.

Andy, that's a great shot, the sky looks incredible. At some point I'd like to hear a little more how the rebel was converted..

I showed the details of the shot, which was quick. Nothing like I expected.
When It became obvious that Photojos were posting shots back from Palestine
on 4mp cameras it was time to leave the dark side

When I get my 20D (or later version), I may have to do that to my little Rebel, too! Awesome IR photos, Andy...keep 'em comin'! ~~Nee :)
ps. It sure was great getting to meet you and the rest of the Dgrinners...thanks for hosting us and for the great gifts, too! (I LOVE that pullover fleece sweatshirt!!!). My only regret is that I wish I'd been able to hang with you guys more than I did, but I was coming down with a cold (and now I'm fully down with it...yuck!!!). Hopefully I'll get around to processing some of my Yosemite pics soon (geeze...I'm sooo behind!!!), but it sure is neat seeing what everyone else has come up with.

enjoy (infrared) photography,
I was looking at this image last night Andy and I thought wow, that image really pops doesnt it, its so clean and sharp, the rock face is ....words fail me, I wanna say "Life Like" but that's not really the right words, hope you get my drift so to speak it looks inviting yet, threatening all at the same time.
Excellent Shot............. Skippy (Australia)

yep - that's the idea behind a great ir imo - really contrasty, super sharp. of the 1000s of ir shots i've done over three years, this has to be my favorite. i printed it at 13x19 and wowowowowow!

thanks a lot aj - i've said to a few others - this is my favorite ir shot of all time that i've done. i am staring at a 13x19 print of it and it looks so freakin' good - zero noise anywhere, and i've *never* been able to print a noise free ir shot that big before. holy ssmokes!
