Fellow Smuggers...

Yesterday I decided to give a try at showing off my galleries via the Apple Mac OS-X RSS Pictures Screensaver.

I tried both Atom and RSS feeds to my open and unprotected galleries and the screensaver gives errors. Mainly, it says the feed has no pictures to show. Tried many different galleries and such. Also tried the feature with a Flickr gallery randomly chosen and it works with theirs.

Opening the feed in Safari or Firefox seems to work, although only the THUMBNAILS seem to display along with links to the rest of the file sizes. I would like to be able to select a particular gallery in a particular resolution (small, large, xl, xxl, Original etc.) and have it shown via RSS.

Can we discuss this and maybe get me some help in getting this to work? Help is appreciated!
:D
Thank you
Manny Gonzalez

You can change the size on any feed by adding: &Size=X3Large (or whatever size you want)

I just checked in OS X and it worked fine.

Anyone? I would like to get this to work if at all possible...

thanks :bow

also when you paste your feed url in, make sure it starts with feed:// instead of http://

feed://bigwebguy.smugmug.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=userkeyword&NickName=BigWebGuy&Data=featured&format=rss200&Size=X3Large

NOT

YOU GUYS ROCK!!! This is why Smugmug will win every time. This level of access and expertise is unmatched

I had just about given up... I must have tried EVERYTHING, even the "feed://" trick. But I think the size thingy threw me for a loop. That not being on the initial RSS link you get when clicking on it at the bottom of the window.

Is there an RSS FAQ or similar? I think this would be so helpful for others.

This is totally awesome! made my day...

Cheers and thanks again guys.

Hmmm, I can't seem to get this to work. Here is the URL I'm using

feed://www.timnosenzo.com/hack/feed.mg?Type=nicknameRecentPhotos&Data=timnosenzo&format=rss200&Size=X3Large

It seems like it always changes the feed:// to http://, and I get a message saying "Your selected subscription has no photos..." Is there another trick I'm missing? I can plug the url in a browser and it works fine. :dunno

Go to System Prefs-->Desktop & Screen Saver-->Click on Mobile Me & RSS

Then press Options--> + --> RSS, and enter the address I pasted there in the form, then click OK.

I get a message saying there are no photos in the RSS feed. Does that seem right?

And even if I type feed:// it replaces it with http:// :wxwax

Cmason and any others - I had same problem, I tried a million times following suggestions in this forum with no luck. I did have luck following the information here

https://secure.identityvector.com/mediawiki/index.php/Using_SmugMug_Feeds_for_OS_X_Screen_Savers

Works perfectly now!

Okay, I realize that this is an old thread by now, and that my question is not exactly about photos, but I used to be able to use my rss screen saver to get news updates, but after the latest updates my MacBook tells me that there are no pictures in the subscription. I've tried different subscriptions, but none of them work.

For example: http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml

Anyone have an idea how to solve this?

I've just spent some time figuring this out so I thought I'd update the thread and share. The RSS feeds no longer go in the RSS Visualizer screen saver. Now what you do is click the plus button just below the list of your screen savers. In that plus button are some choices; one of them is Add RSS Feed...

Put your formatted RSS feed from SmugMug in there. It doesn't matter if it starts with feed or http.

Here's a page that lists feed options that's helpful.
http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/84258

At the very least you'll want to add &size=XLarge or some other size described in the link. Otherwise the RSS feed will only show thumbnails and the screensaver will report the images are too small.

Thanks to all who posted before me. I'm enjoying having my latest stuff on my work screen saver now!
