Motorcycle/supermoto lens question

I am attend the Final for the AMA in Sonoma in a few weeks. As I normally ride, this will be my first time to shoot my friends!
What lens should i use? I have in mind a 70-200 but as I have not done this I am unsure.

I havea canon 50d for a body.

How close/far are you going to be from the riders? Thats the primary lens that i use for that kind of sport unless i am farther back - then bigger is needed! Regardless, I hope we get to see the shots!!!

I have a team pass so I can be in the pit/in the middle of the field. :clap

I might have to chase around the field a bit but as supermoto tracks are more like go cart sized I was hoping that the 200 would be big enough.

I would use the 70-200. I used it at the Minneapolis SX and saw it quite a bit at the Spring Creek MX last year. It's an awesome lens!:D

Cool!! I grew up there (at spring creek) and it is a great track. I haven't been back in a while though. I am originally from that part of the country....

I miss it somedays, but i hear my friends are doing well up there. One guy was ranked 5th for the state last i knew even.

70/200 w 1.4 or 70/300. Look for the handicap sections around the track they're close and w no handicapped. I would take a bicycle to ring the track and a folding bench (12" height to shoot over the fence.)

At least a 300 for most stuff. So a 100-400, a 70-200 with a 1.4 tc or a 300.

Here is a shot I grabbed at Infineon during the AMA superbike series this year. I used a 80-200mm f2.8 on a D200. Good thing about that track is they let you right on the "infield."

Thanks ever so much! I was at that race in May as well. Am going back as supermoto is my thing. You are right they let you infeild without much of a problem...too bad the motocross field is gone, that would have been nice too.
