Some shots from the Cambrian Rally in Snowdonia, North Wales.

Like last time I tried to go less for the motion blurred look. There was a lot of water around so I wanted to freeze that, but still keep some wheel movement if it was possible.

Pretty cool shots, but I can't help but wonder if some of them would have benefitted from fill flash. :dunno

Well really fill flash would have been of no use at the distances involved in all but the last two photos (where I did use subtle fill flash as you can see from the car license plates). In quite a few photos there is strong sun behind me at a fairly low angle. Can't really get much more fill light than that! :)

Too much fill and the picture lacks light/dark differential and ends up looking very flat. I don't think it is important to see every single bit of detail in shadows. The overall effect of a picture is more important IMO.

The other trouble with flash is the various effects it can have on fast moving subjects when trying to achieve a particular look. The synch speed on my camera is only 1/180th, and unless trying to freeze the water as I was in many of these shots too much flash would have frozen bits of motion that I really did not want frozen, or have led to really odd looking motion trails. But I don't have huge experience of flash photography so I'm just going on my limited experience with it. :)

I love #3, 4 & 6. #15 is great for crowd reaction!
