I just wanted to share this photo I took at Hogle Zoo in Utah on a field trip with the Ogden Camera Club (http://www.ogdencameraclub.org/).

Beautiful shot.:thumb The teeth are orange, and I suspect it is due to too much saturation. Try reducing it a bit.

Dan,

Thanks for your comment. After I read your post, I examined my original raw file. His/her teeth are yellow-orange, but you're right, the added saturation makes them appear even more so. What's the solution? The saturation looks great on the face and the fur, but what should I do? Tell me if I'm on the right track: zoom in, sample some color from another tooth (or the original), use the dodge tool and carefully brush the two teeth.

Anyone else have some helpful suggestions?

I use Nik Vivesa which allows you to saturate/desaturate a chosen area, much like you would do in PS by creating masks.

Shaun,

Great pic. I actually just posted another thread asking which long lens I should take to a trip to the Zoo my wife are planning for next weekend.

What focal length lens did you take with you?

I took two lenses with me, a Tamron 55-200 (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=109754) and a Sigma 70-300. I used the Sigma at 300mm most of the time because in this particular zoo, animals are a bit further back from the walkway. You'll probably want your fastest lens.

Since this was my first trip to the zoo without kids :D and the main purpose was to photograph animals, I did a Google search and picked up a few tips before shooting at the zoo. Things like: make the eyes the focal point of the shot, wear dark clothing if you have to shoot through glass, take a tripod and be prepared to be patient.

Good luck and make sure to post some of your pics when you get back.

Wow... great information. I never thought to google for tips even though I tend to google for everything.

Dan,

I just downloaded the trial version of Viveza. It's really easy to use and took about a minute to fix the teeth. I like this version much better.

Wow.:thumb :thumb :thumb Vivesa ought to pay us for this promotion. :rofl That worked great. It's an expensive piece of software. Are you going to buy it?

I'm going to have to check out Viveza. That came out well.

BTW, I am going to stick with the 70-200mm since it's pretty fast. I have a D300 so that will give me a bit of extra length with the 1.5x crop.

Do you guys think I should bring along a 1.4x teleconverter? I've never used one so don't have much experience. I know it will stop down the lens a bit but will it degrade the IQ that much?

Will this be overkill? I guess I'd rather bring it and not use it than not and regret not having it with me.

A few guys on our trip to the zoo had them, but didn't end up using them. I would think if it's a sunny day and you're using a fast lens, it wouldn't hurt to take it and experiment.

$249? Umm, that's a definite no. I would probably take the time to learn some masking techniques before spending that much on a plug-in that I wouldn't use as much as a pro.

While I was browsing Nik's site, I downloaded the trial version of Sharpener Pro 3.0 and played with my tiger photo. I wasn't impressed. There's other plug-in's that do the same for much cheaper ($200). I am going to download and try Silver Efx Pro because I do take a lot of b/w. Either way, you can't go wrong with a 15-day trial before making a decision.

Thanks again for your help.

Nice pic!
I think the focus is on the nose and not on the eyes. Just try to focus the eyes next time. It will be much more better for this good pic, I think.
