I'm learning and getting a little better at catching these buggers.

Thanks Ben. I don't think wood ducks go that far south.

Those are great! Not over sharpened, gorgeous colors. Wonderful birds.

The first time I have seen them at our wetlands was last week. Do you live near a bunch of them?

Great shots.

Hey there Khaos.........they would have to be the prettiest ducks I've seen, are they common? or only found in certain areas?

The markings are just beautiful, the colors amazing........now tell me they are a protected species and people don't shoot them.

Are these ducks are tiny breed? or are they large? they would win a beauty contest if one was held for ducks for sure :rofl

Lovely shots.......... Skippy (Australia)

Skippy,

The wood duck is common to North America only. Mostly East of the Mississippi, some can be found on the Pacific coast. There are a few areas in Eastern Canada as well that they can be found.

It is considered to be the the most beautiful duck in the world by many naturalists. THey are not protected now, but there was a hunting ban on them from the the early 1900's until 1941.

They are a little smaller than a mallard, though I have seen a couple large ones.
