View Full Version : So you wanna see birds ?

It's obvious there are many bird photographers in this forum. While I can't say I've had much opportunity to capture song birds in trees, I have done a great deal of shooting water birds, wading birds / shore birds.
Tomorrow for the first time, I am heading to a rookery! Truthfully, I didn't even know what a rookery was, until Harry opened my eyes to his great captures obtained at a local Florida rookery.
Until I can post some rookery images over the weekend, here are a few of my own personal favorite shorebird images for ya......
critiques / comments not only appreciated but, encouraged!

Really nice. How close to the Egret were you ? The closest I can get is
about 100 feet then they take off.

Critiques?! :huh Yeah, they're too nice, ok? Too well framed, too well exposed. And too much detail, too sharp and way too crisp. And too much natural beauty.
Can you deal with it? :wink

Hi Markjay,
Nice series! The first image is a excellent. The "eye" is beautiful in that shot. Look forward to seeing what you capture at the rookery! Good hunting!

If memory serves me, about 8 feet or less.

Appreciate the critique. If only ALL my shots were crisp and as detailed. I'd say that over the 6 or 7 years I've been shooting digital, specifically digital (I've shot 35 mm for about 15-18 years prior), that my image quality has improved.
If you saw the images I presented to people (ask in the STF challenges) when I first started out in digital, you'd understand exactly what I mean here. For one thing, I had NO idea what I was doing in the post processing of my digital images. They were all oversharpened and I ruined several images because I was too stupid to work on copies at the time. Sigh.... live and learn.
Thank you,
Markjay

Great shots! They really are.
I spent the afternoon getting ospreys. I don't think I, or my camera, saw any babies, but they are acting like they are there.
And I think the male decided to make up with me. Have to upload them, then collapse. 11:42 PM here. And the upload takes forever.
Wish I could go to a rookery tomorrow, or the next day.

Thanks Mark.
I been taking pics at a much longer distance and thinking why aren't my
pics coming out as clear as other folks. You just saved me a ton of money.
I was starting to think my lens was bad, or out of calibration.
Thanks again.
