I have had a very hard time trying to get a merganser in focus...could it be that their "hair" sticking out the back of their heads confuses the AF system in my Oly??? And the fact that they are very skittish and don;t like you getting too close? I managed, finally, to get a few decent shots a couple of days ago...one lone merganser was hanging out with a flock of mallards...

that can happen on canons too, don't feel bad! ;~)
I have a heck of a time shooting the male harriers, their faces are gray and eyes pale, the camera just rarely hits the centerpoint correctly. It sort of washes out.

I think the first one is exposed well!

Very nice captures of a difficult subject Neil. They are a tough target to focus because they contrast too close to their background.
