Hello,
I started a small, small, small, small photography business last November. Did I mention it was a small operation. But anyway, I still dream big. So after looking at other people's sites on Smugmug I have come to the conclusion that I would like a better looking site. If anyone could help me I would so greatly appreciate it. I really like this guys site; http://bigwebguy.smugmug.com/ I don't know how I could get mine to look like this but it can obviously be done. So if anyone knows and would like to help I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't have an answer to your question but I think it would help to include a link to your site so we see what you're starting with.

oops I was looking at http://bigwebguy.smugmug.com/
I guess I would start by getting your own domain. This is very inexpensive and then start branding your site with your own name/logo vs the SmugMug logo.

That's a highly customized home page. While I'm sure that you can successfully copy the html and css to create that look, I'd recommend coming up with your own look and feel rather than fully copying someone else's look.
As Chuck mentioned above, we will need your site URL to help. But we also need your ideas, whether it is ideas in words or a mock-up in a tool like photoshop. And - I highly recommend adding your site url to your signature here. Click You! (above and to the left), then Edit Signature.
Do you already have a banner and navbar? Or are you starting from scratch?
Take a look at this sticky thread for links to good information on customizing your site - http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=52812.
A few examples of links from that thread:
Tutorial on adding banner, navbar, and homepage slideshow is at http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/2160039
Gallery showing samples of smug sites is at http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1801307#118526631_q8xD5
Oh, and while a custom domain does not change the look and feel of your site at all (you can use your own logo with or without your own domain), if you are running a photography business a custom domain will provide more of a professional feel.
