The Pro Fuel bike on fire in an earlier post was my favorite shot of the weekend, but here are some of the more "mundane" images in case you're interested.

This guy won $12,000 in the annual "High Stakes Shootout" and was quite happy lol.

Those are pretty impressive machines. That last shot is very cool--the flame and the bike--sweet!

NICE! Hard for me to pick a winner. I love the classic shot like 4 & 5 - but the flames in the last one really help!
I may have to send you a message or two on your flash usage! You shots stand out above the rest!

Ian, thanks.
Thanks BCS! As you probably know, dragstrips offer horrible lighting at best lol. Usually harsh back-lighting and very limited choice of angles. This track only had media access to one side of the track (or shoot through fence). I've just started using balanced fill, and it really opens up shooting for some rounds I would have just bypassed. As a racer myself, I'm very careful to not shoot at an angle which might flash in the riders' eyes.
The flash images here were done with the D3 and SB900 on TTL/BL with -2/3 or -1 flash EV dialed in. I need to learn more.

Nice work. My favorite is the last one.
Looks like vrods were well represented. Is that motor/frame more favored for the drags?

...You need to learn more what? Cooking? Languages? LOL!! Your pictures rock! Anytime you want to see some flash work of someone who needs to learn - I can show ya lots! Then again, if you get to a point where you dont need to learn more, its time to hang up the Nikons!
I just bought a SB-900 not too long ago - A world apart from the sb-600! Expect some PM's regarding settings!!!:rofl

One sees more and more V-Rods in the sportsman classes. The sanction has two sportsman classes specifically for them (SE V-rod is a no wheelie bars class, and SE Destroyer is the factory dragbike class), both sponsored by Screamin' Eagle. Sportster and older Big Twin based frame/engine combos are still the majority, but the V-Rod Destroyers and V-Rod bikes are gaining ground.
