Very, very nice. Some may say it might be a little blown out or not quite sharp around the eyes, but I'm not sure if it's compression for the web or jpg that's doing that.
I like the nice soft light quality of it, the photo looks so peaceful and I can see the bird calmly guiding by in the early fog (even if it's not early or foggy, :): )
By the way I've been photographing for years on end, and this photo is way better than any bird in flight I've ever gotten!

Welcome Howard :wave
A very nice first photo post :thumb :thumb You shoulda stopped lurking long ago....lol
As for tearing up your egret, you must be thinking of another site :dunno If you ask for a critque, you may get some critical remarks. Otherwise, we're just happy to see people post their shots :clap
Again, welcome to the club and don't be a posting stranger :):

Too bad your first image is of an egret. This place is swamped with birds. :)
Just kidding of course: a very nice shot, and if you're capable of this, I'm looking forward to your future contributions.

After I pull it to pieces, can I feed it to the cat?
OUCH, don't kick me!
Good shot. And there can never be too many egrets/birds. This is the egret/bird thread. We let others post other forms of "wild life" (no wild parties, that is another thread) But mostly it is egrets and other birds.
Our bird master is out of town. His name is Harry, he is the moderator, but he used to be just a guy, and he learned this bird stuff, shares his knowledge. His critics don't sting, neither do others, usually.
I am kind of waiting to post til he gets back, though he promised to go through everything afterwards.
I am glad you posted, keep it up. And YEAH for the egret. (Right now, as we speak, many more are coming into the world through this strange egg process)
ginger (note my avatar. An actual photograph. Here in the low country of SC they, egrets, are all over. Even at road crossings. They have to get their kids to the schools, etc.)

Thanks All, A little more info. It was late afternoon and the BG is the grey sky we've had a lot of lately. The sun was getting low as it's dark here by about 7pm. I agree it looks quite soft at this size and it's getting pretty close to 255,255,255 on the neck. Howard

The wings are what impress me.
I clicked it off to see if I could make the eye look sharp, but I have not had time. We do that, if you don't want me to, please say so. If I never get to it, or can't do anything, I am silent.

I'm very happy for you to have a go with it:):
Here's a closer crop but still strugling with the file size.
