I am looking to publish a photo book of my photography. I am having a hard time finding something that is cost effective but of good quality. Everything that I have checked out is just expensive enough that you can't sell it for a reasonable, affordable price. Does anyone out there know of any other ideas to look into.

i am interested in this too, but affordable to me is different than affordable to you. what do you want to spend? how big do you want it to be? page count?

I could probably spend a couple hundred dollars the first time and then reinvest what I make from the book. I am also thinking about 50 or so pages.

www.Blurb.com (http://www.Blurb.com) pretty good quality for the price but print a test copy first to make sure the images print the way you want them. Photos often print darker on paper then they look on a monitor.

My Publisher offers some different sizes and covers. If you are a Costco member there is a 55% off deal gojng on until the season hits in a couple weeks.

Are you looking at publish-on-demand services (Blurb is like this), or to publish a first-edition run and then attempt to sell them one-by-one? On-demand will be more expensive per copy but you have no up-front costs. But printing a run in-bulk is cheaper per-copy, with the added risk of forking over your own money and waiting for the sales to come in and replace your investment.

I would check out www.poundslabs.com about a volume discount on their Press Books. They are an Austin company with a long and positive history and produce a book of noticeably higher quality than Blurb, comparable in all respects to Asuka Book at much lower prices.

EDIT -- I just looked over Pound's prices. While definitely cheaper than Asuka, I think they're still higher than Blurb. However, the quality is much, much better. Personally, for all the hype about Blurb I really think their quality is just so-so.

don't know how many you're looking at printing - but I've had several made at shutterfly and they're very reasonably priced and look good.
