View Full Version : Embedded video links to gallery
We have started embedding several videos into a blog. Today I noticed that at the end of playing it, an option to "go to gallery" shows up. Clicking this takes one directly to the gallery even though it is set to unlisted/hello smuggers-no,etc. I tried it on a different browser not being logged into smugmug and it still did it. I havent noticed that before, but it is showing up on several past links too. Im not very happy about this happening.
Anybody? Am I the only one having this problem?

What's the code you're using? Must be a link embeded in it.

Here's the steps that were taken.
-Share button
-Get a link
-Under the video embed section
-Clicked on Web size link to copy
-That link was pasted into the html section of the blog
This is the same thing that we've done before and it has worked fine. It just recently started adding the go to gallery link for some reason.

The Hide Owner feature will disable that link. Give that a shot.

I don't quite understand that one, can you explain more about it or where I can find more documentation - yup I will RTFM.

The option still shows up and takes you right to the protected gallery. All it does is take away the links to the folders above in the hierarchy (breadcrumbs if thats the right term).

I think that in my searching that I've seen reference to the possibility of removing these links through CSS. If that's true, has anyone figured that one out?

Okay, I locked my album down that I have my videos in & that took away the gallery link. So maybe that will help the OP. But I'd still like to know if there's a way to get rid of the link to the sharing code at the end of the video? I'm very close to committing to buying the Pro package (I'm currently within the trial period), but this is potentially a deal-breaker for me. Anyone?
What do you mean by lock down? I thought I had done that already.

Sorry, I think that I spoke to soon. I was referring to the site-wide settings in the control panel, but I've got a weird thing going. In IE7, it just shows the replay & code links at the end of the video, but in Firefox 3 it displays all 3.

So I was thinking about this last night & I was wondering if those links displayed at the end are a function of the player? Or if they're embedded into the file when the video is processed (from what I understand that's the way that Photobucket handles it & that's a major reason why I went away from them)? If it's a function of the player, could you point the code of the file to a different player? I run my own website with ftp access, so that's a viable alternative for me.

It is a function of the player. But at this time it is not customizable to remove them. We would have to code that function due to the way it works. I will pass the request along to the programmers.

Does that mean there is no way to post a video in public without allowing full access to the gallery it's in? Do I have to put each video in a separate gallery to be able to show them but not show all my pics? I guess I don't understand why the option to view gallery is even there.

Has there been any progress on this issue? Like the previous poster, to avoid sharing multiple videos, I would have to setup different galleries and only put in single videos to eliminate people seeing videos of others.
The "Go to Gallery" still exists in my non-Smugmug website at the very end of the video. From within Smugmug, the "Go to Gallery" icon disappears after the Hide Owner change was made.
If anyone has any input into this, I would appreciate it. :bow
Thanks,
Fred

Fred, No updates as of yet. Sorry. The guys have been working hard on other features to help speed the site and video processing up.

Doc,
Those are the most important issues at hand for sure! So, we'll wait until you have time.
Thanks for keeping this on the to-do list somewhere!
Take care,
Fred

I simply put the video in their own gallery with a password. Embedding the video in an html page or blog still works but if they choose to follow the Home link, they are prompted for a password.

Just wanted to add my agreement that the ability to remove the sharing and gallery buttons at the end of a video would be really great.
Thanks.
