View Full Version : <Mini Challenge #12 ~ "Rusty Old Things"

Sep-29-2008, 03:42 PM
Man, I had a time trying to come up with a theme. :D
So many ways to go.
I was bent on High Key B&W but decided against it. Maybe next time.

For this round I decided to go with favorite subject of mine.
" Rusty Old Things"
This is wide open for your interpretation. I hope you have fun with this theme!
So bring out your shots and share.

This challenge will run from Monday, September 29th thru Sunday, October 12th.
Closing at (Midnight) Eastern Standard Time USA.

I'll post the winner in a new thread titled: >MINI CHALLENGE #12 Winner<

~~~~~
*GENERAL RULES*
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
* The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, dont let this just be an entry thread!
6. Dont be hesitant, share'em and enter!
I have quite a few of this type of image. The first was shot a couple years ago with the Tamron 28-75. The others are recently captured while shooting my entry for DSS8 with the Canon 17-55F2.8IS. All with the XTi.
Edit: Why are the last two not showing. All three are from the same gallery.
Not sure what happened for you. There is a subtle difference in the
page source code for those photo links.
Try editing your post and re insert
the photo links the same way you did the first image once again.
Check preview post before submitting reply.
I tried putting your photos in this note from your web links and the
photos are there. But since I am not a moderator I can not change your
post.
Give it a shot. & Good luck with it. :thumb
Great topic! Can't wait to see everyone's entries. Should make for a fabulous gallery. Hope you realize DaddyO that as tough as it was to pick a topic, it's going to be even harder to pick a winner if the current entries are any indication of how the rest will unfold!:D
Edit: Can't think and type at the same time and added those * things.
Lots of really nice work coming in as mentioned. Just what I was hoping for.
Thanks.
I like both versions. The green was a retro cross process type treatment....the one here is more in line to mimic the lomographic film camera.
Hi Hank
I think we're both correct. While the mechanism of propelling a racing shell is "rowing", the activity itself is often referred to as "crew" or "crewing". IMHO, crewing, in this context, is to rowing as canoeing is to paddling. I am not alone in this as the following illustrates.
From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/032698/row26.html)
March 26, 1998
Recreational rowing: Crewing and sculling are making a splash
By GREG JOHNSTON Mail Author Bio
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
From the Wentworth Institute of Technology (http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:K-XPtIZ0F_EJ:myweb.wit.edu/kiml1/245fall04/web-content/project%2520three.pdf+crewing+%22racing+sculls%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=32&gl=us)
The relationship of land to water has figured prominently in the history of Boston as it has developed into one of the
most important cities on the Eastern Seaboard. Back Bay was once swampland that was eventually filled and
occupied, and the Charles River is still an important spine for the city and its neighbor, Cambridge.
The relationship with the water has not only impacted the economic viability of the city, but its proximity has also
provided the city with invaluable leisure activities. Sailboats and fishing vessels populate both the harbor and the
Charles River from early spring to early winter. As students descend upon the city in the fall, the Charles River
becomes host to the Head of the Charles, one of the most significant crewing events in the world.
