D700, ISO 400, f11@10s. (70-200mm 2.8)

This was taken at around 7:00 AM on a tributary of the Opeongo River in Algonquin Park. Two images were blended together in order to get the exposure correct in the foreground. Nothing else was done to this with exception of increasing the gamma slightly to accentuate the misty morning. I throw a border around all my pics now with my signature on the bottom as way around the watermark issue. Hopefully it isn't an issue.

Due to compositional constraints here, I was forced to go with a more compressed photo that I think subtley works. I had to increase the ISO to get a little more detail in those shadowy areas.

I love this atmospheric effect that occurs so beautifully in the north country in late summer and early fall. There's such a quiet, mystical, desolate aura about these mornings. It may lack the grandeur of the great peaks and canyons of the west, but it's sublime nonetheless. You've definitely conveyed this sense of place in this image.:clap

The thing I'm lacking a bit is some real detail in the foreground to focus on. The mud's ok. The little lily pads and reeds have promise, but don't quite deliver. The fringe of grasses at the very bottom of the image have nice tones, but there's not enough of them to engage. So I feel like I'm just walking by this spot without really getting pulled in to just sit and LOOK. Maybe a lower camera angle that came at the water more at the level of the front lily pads or that included more of the grasses would've done it for me.

So, I love what you've captured in the middle ground and background, but think a bit more detail in the foreground would've made it exquisite. Of course, if a big, old moose had happened to wander by...:barb

Thanks Halite. You read my mind about the moose!

I just saw your post of other images from Algonquin over in the journeys forum. The images you posted in #11 and #14 are similar to this image, but more of what I was talking about in my critique here. In fact, these images are STUNNING!

Anyone who has looked at this post, but hasn't seen the other images geospatial junkie has posted from this trip really should take a visit:
