My nieces and nephew had homecoming last night and I photographed them after they were ready and some while getting ready. The shots when they were getting ready were okay. I mean, I wasn't horribly dissapointed. I bounced the flash. I wasn't too terribly pleased though with the shots that came later. They look to me as if I didn't know what to do with the camera. I was and am very disgusted with the lack of clarity and the muddiness of the colors. For the most part I shot into the sun, I think. Anyway, thank goodness these were just for my family and their friends. I have more to edit but will just share what i have so far.

Looking at the first one, yup you had some problems. I wonder if your flash fired?

Anyway, a quick edit produced this (before and after), but what did I do? Not much ...

Set the WB - I used the teeth of one of the girls to get it close. Then adjusted it a bit to get magenta/yellow ratio closer to the norm
Brightened it a bit

So, you have what you need to start with, a little PS TLC and you'll have it...

I love the differences in opinion that photography provides!

Now, I don't consider myself anywhere near Scott in knowledge, but my personal opinion is the before shot is too dark AND the after shot is washed out. I guess if I were giving some PS TLC, I'd find a happy medium. Anyone else agree, or is there a reason the shot should look the way Scott made it?

I tend to agree with you - hence the disclaimer "just a quick edit"

My intent was to show that "fixing it" was possible.

Julie, these are really fun!! I liked them all, and with a little touch up they'll be great. Good job :clap

Thanks Scott, glad to feel like I'm not going crazy!

And to Julie, these are really nice shots...my sister just had her Homecoming here in NJ, but I wasn't around to take the pix. We'll see how the P&S camera does here *groan*.
