Confused...

Few weeks back i was approached by ICI to put my photos in calendar. Well i was asked to send sideshow of my work for board of director approval i got through everything my work got passed.
But

"We don't want to use photos that are available on popular web gallery" Now dealing and negotiation is going on for special assignment for calendars (historic buildings in Pakistan).Rates are done waiting to hear about location i hope i could do that as university is on:rolleyes

My question is.

What was wrong to go for images that are available on gallery ? Only around 40 to 50 people visit my gallery daily. And what i asked for the images was about 80% less then what they are paying me for shooting on location. :scratch

First - congratulations on the deal. That's going to be SWEET!

As to the other question - I understand that publishers want photos that have not been published elsewhere and, these days, that means not published on the web as well in printed media.

But, like you, I don't understand why and I'm hoping someone can/will provide an answer that someone other than an intellectual property rights lawyer can understand.:D

Seems they have clearly stated they want new, fresh, original, not seen before images for their calendar, and are willing to pay for them.

Okay i was quite excited about the project and did a lot home work as every photographer should do. But the company is not willing to do a written contract nor they are willing to pay any advance ! :huh and they are asking me to take care of travel etc btw they are willing to pay 3000$

They are saying go out and shoot every building/mosque that is interesting and do this for 6 different cities and every image that i will shoot will become their property !

I have send them polite reply that

Asking about exactly what to expose
I need to have written contract
And advance
Otherwise there are lots of people doing better work then me.

I had to face serious loss last time because i had no written contract !

So much for new lenses :rofl

I sounds to me like you did the right thing. That sure does sound like a scam!:dunno
