Hi,
I'm a newbie, so be kind. Been a member for a while, but haven't posted any picts. Here's a few recent bird photos (hope I did it right).
All were taken with a Canon 40D using a 170-500mm lens, hand-held.

Hmm, the photos aren't showing up, only the links. Did you click the little "Insert Image" icon? Looks like a couple of gray mountains on a yellow background.

Love the roller! Great color and sharp. The shrike is quite good too. The brown dead leaves give some color to the image of the black and white shrike. The bluebird is nice, but seems a bit OOF. Either way, you are off to a great start. Welcome and post more.

Thanks for the comments.
What does OOF mean?
Sorry, I'm still learning.

I didn't use an Insert Image thingy. I just copied and pasted the links.
Maestro was able to open them though.

Don't apologize, you (and I) are still learning. :D
OOF = Out Of Focus. Assuming you used your camera's auto focus (AF), it may have either focused on something else (front of the post? tailfeathers?), or it just banged up the focus all on its own. Or, the bird was moving slightly, and the shutter speed wasn't fast enough to "freeze" it. AF is often not perfect, but usually "good enough". I can't really tell in this shot - the subject is too small relative to the size of the frame - but I'm not a real photographer.
I like the colors in the roller.

Got it. It is probably a bit OOF due to the hand held non-IS lens.
I have some more shots of birds I took at Kruger I'll post soon.
Thanks,

Pictures are sharp and the color is good. About the only thing I would mention is that I think the birds are a little too centered in the photos. A little bit of cropping would definitely do the trick!
Nice post :D

The images look pretty good. In the future don't do a link just embed the picture in your post. I'm a lazy SOB and hate extra mouse clicks.
I would try cropping the images and see how that works. Also on your comp it isn't effective to have your subjects so centered.

Thanks Harry,
I'll try posting one with an imbedded image.
I'm on this site because i want to learn, thanks for the tips.

Harry,
I'm a little confused. What extra mouse clicks? Is there a way to view the posts to where imbedded photos show up without clicking anything?
That may be where I'm mixed up on the other thread where I'm trying to post an imbedded image.

I figured it out Harry. Sorry for the trouble.
I had to change my settings to show the imbedded image.
thanks,
doc
