Does anyone know if you need Pet Model release? :scratch
If i do portraits for dog/or dogs with people, i get people's model release, but what about their pooches?
Thanks for any help.

Get the pooches to add their paw-print to the form.

Just add a line to your contract for kids(under legal age) and pets ..........but normally, I think you do need model releases for identifiable pets..............

Because pets are not evolved enought to make their own decisions, you need a property release

Thanks Kat, i never thought of them as property, but that make sense, i'm wondering if owners will get offended if i call their pets "property" :D

Pets are considered property in the US legally speaking. So you would need a property release I would assume.

Might also want to take a look at http://www.danheller.com/model-release.html#8.3. His opinion appears to be that if you are taking shots in public then you don't need a release for pets, however in a private setting such as a studio you would.

Let's start at the beginning. Why are you currently getting releases from your portrait clients?

Angelo, this is purely for advertising purposes, if i really really like the shot, i want it to be part of my portfolio (online or hard copy), so i ask for a model release. Same with pets, kids, anything really.

advertising? advertising your own work?
you really do not need releases for that purpose as I understand the laws. But better safe than sorry?
As others have said, a property release is what you would use for pets.
