I have been kinda getting into bird photography since hanging out with Harry down in florida. So that said. I have lived in michigan my whole life and I knew about the general birds we have here. Hawks, herons, seagulls, air rats (pigeons), mocking birds etc. Well I saw lots of egrets down in florida among other things. So since I have gotten back I have been noticing birds and stuff while I was driving around (and sometimes planning on going back to those areas later to try to find them again with my camera) and when I was driving to the doctors :rolleyes yesterday I think I saw something. I think I saw egrets flying around near my house. Now I recognize them from florida. But I had never noticed egrets in michigan before. Was I just blind all these years. Do egrets actually fly up here to the cold? Or was it something else that looked like an egret. I saw two flying in the same area.

I'm not a bird expert myself, but there are some herons or egrets that venture up north. I know for a fact blue herons make it up to New England, so why not southeastern MI??
:dunno

Blue herons I know make it here. Herons in general I know do. It's the egrets that are throwing me but from what I can find online looks like they do.

It's amazing what you notice once you start shooting birds. To the point of almost getting into accidents on the road due to staring up at a bird flying over....lol

Egrets are pretty hardy and I think you'll find that they like the same climes as herons. So I think it's likely that you have them in Michigan. One of the Great Lakes is even named after a bird. Lake Heron :lol
