Well for starters since this is my first post, my name is Jon. http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/xzicon_smile_cool.gif

Now to the newbie question. I have a Canon Rebel T2(35mm) and I also have a 70-300 Quantaray Lense - http://www.ritzcamera.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=29911&bct=%3Bc1022%3Bc914962 - it has a macro siwtch on it that can be enabled when it is at 180+ focal length. What does the macro do? From what I can see all it does is blur the image and I have never gotten a clear focus out of it. Am I doing something wrong?

A macro lens is for taking photos of small objects. Your dof will be very small so the focus needs to be acurate or as you have discovered everything will be out of focus. Try taking a photo of say a flower close up and use a tripod.
