I have a 1 gig Lexar 80x. I format it ...put it in the 20D & take a heap of photos in RAW. I put that whole card onto my portable HD (all goes on as 1 file)

When i get home i download it as one file from my HD & when i open it in RawShooter i have 3 files

1st is called 120 canon with 4 images...the 2nd is 121 canon with 97 images & the 3rd is canon 122 with 31 images.

:scratch :dunno

I know that on my camera, a directory is created on the card called Fuji100 (or somthing like that). I think the same is true for Canons (canon guys can verify this?). If your card has three different directories on it, then maybe your HD is making a file of each directory separately.

That's the way it works.. The camera creates new folders, I haven't figured out how it works exactly...

Is there any difference in th settings you were using on the pictures? Maybe using different settings on your camera automatically creates new folders on the memory card. To keep them separated?:dunno

Each folder holds 100 photos, from 1 to 100, 101 to 200, 201 to 300, etc.

If the camera is at 597 when you start your shooting session and you shoot 50 photos, you will wind up with two folders. One with 3 photos and another with 47 photos (598 to 600, and 601 to 647).

It only seems random and arbitrary :wink

And for the record, I hate the folder setup. At least put 1000 in a folder instead of a measly 100.

And you can end up with less than 100 pictures in a folder if you do any immediate deletions (which I frequently do).
