I use Memories on TV (http://www.codejam.com/). Couldn't be easier and I couldn't be happier, and I labored over this decision for MONTHS. As always! :rofl

Does Gold offer the same pan and text techniques that ProShow Producer offers, by any chance? PSP is a whopping $250 but from all demos I have seen, it's definately worth it.

There are a few aditional features... http://www.photodex.com/products/proshowgold/compare.html
Download the trial of the Producer version, and the Gold version to see if you miss any of the features. The key to a professional looking show is simplicity, I doubt I'd use most of the Producer's extra features, but I might try it out anyway.
I'm so impressed with how quickly I could get up and running with this software, and how easy it is to output to just about any format, from iPod to DVD to streaming web video. I've shown a 10 min cut-down slideshow of a recent wedding to a couple of prospective brides so far... they've both booked. :clap
Have a look. The slideshow is uploaded here... http://www.stuartwalkerphotography.co.uk/
as streaming video. (unless you have some version of Proshow installed, you will be prompted to download a small viewer).

Thanks for the info....very helpful! I'm a sucker for all the bells and whistles...so Producer it is! Love your slideshow....very classic, clean, & crisp....the 3c's of wedding photography. :D

If you're on a Mac you get software to do this for free -- iDVD. And its as easy as you would expect from a Mac.

Windows Movie Maker does a decent job, and it's free.

for slideshows, you're probably better off using microsoft photo story than movie maker. unfortunately it only outputs to wmv files which are not particularly as client-friendly as avi or mpg depending on how you plan on distributing them.

+1 for photostory, it is very nice for a free product.
To Dan's point, I bought a Photostory burn-to-DVD plugin (http://www.sonic.com/products/Consumer/PhotoStory/) for $20.
But I did have a lot of problems with the format being readable on the DVD player as well as other PCs.
