As i have mentioned I am a beginner so I am going to be a very annoying and asking too many stupid questions. I need you harsh critique about those shots. What is wrong? Goal: to shot the man with newspaper. Thanks!:D :ivar <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Can you post your exif data?
First thing is there is too much going on in the background. You need to set your focus point to the man with the paper and then shoot with a shallow depth of field to try and blur the background.
You could have also done this with a long shutter speed since the man with the paper is probably not moving very much but the people walking and the cars are moving.
The shot looks much better without the people in the background. I like it. Maybe you could have gotten lower, a bit closer or zoomed in more, and put him a little more left, but not centered.
Now your noise is pretty high and the picture isn't very sharp. The sharpness problem may have to do with the fact that you attached the picture rather than linked to it. I think the noise may be an equipment limitation. Are you shooting a P&S camera?
Did you shoot the B&W in color and convert it in post? (You should always shoot in color and convert later as that gives you better B&Ws). If so you should play with the conversion more. His face, especially around his nose, blends in too well with the background.

You need to lower your ISO or is that on purpose? also It looks like your focused on the background and not him.

Thank you very much. I shoot in color and then convert them, I have noticed that the quality has been lost during resizing in second one.
No, I do not have ISO set on purpose, it is in most cases set as auto . I am still struggling with proper/correct camera settings and good composition:cry :scratch , so i will take into account all your suggestions:lust <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

First things first - Youv'e no doubt heard it before, "There's no such thing as a stupid question." Well, around here that really does hold true. We are all about helping each other learn and improve and enjoy. If you get too anoying, someome will gently say something - but don't expect that to happen any time soon as I've not seen it happen yet!
The second photo, I believe, is better than the first -
Less going on in the background
The B&W conversion helps to focus attention on the subject (maybe that's just me).
Here's what I see (in no particular order)
It's a simple photo with not a lot going on it it - distraction-wise - and does a good job of telling a story
I would crop some from the left (get rid of most, if not all, of the third ball)
I might crop some from the bottom as well
You have a post growing out of his head
You don't have distracting people all over the shot - that's a good thing:D
You have some nice curves in the pavement leading the viewer right to the man with the paper
The man is not in focus, focus appears to be somewhat beyond him

the composition and cropping are great in this last one. If you had him more in focus and a little less noisy then it might push the picture into the "very good" pile!

I think a little more background blur would have been nice. Try a lower f stop & focus on your subject for shots like this. I like the black & White version better than color. Happy Shooting:thumb

Another thing you might want to consider is color balancing your photo. The skin color on my monitor is red for everyone...well, pink...exceptionally so. It looks like you camera missed the white balance.
I like your concept...especially the second one. And ditto what most of the others have said.

Which is why many (most) perform post processing on photos and include setting/verifying the WB.
To do this, it really, really helps to have a monitor that has been calibrated (search DGrin, there's been thread on this recently).

Scott, thanks again.
Luckily my camera has custom BW setting and I did play today with it and made some changes. So I do hope next time photos will be much better<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
