Here are a few more from the rookery:

I have been sneaking to my computer trying to get the time to get through all these shots so they are not in any order...we shot during some pretty harsh sunlight up till about 6:15 pm so colors are different reflecting the changing light.

I have numerous chick shots..I was thrilled to be able to see these little guys!

mom preening as babies sleep:

Mom typically uses her body to shade the chicks. Shooting was very difficult because the light was different with every shot..lots of setting changes...

the very tedious task of nest building:

My absolute favorite shots are of the breeding plumes:

Trish, I love those. And my reaction was first, why did you get chicks before I did? When were they born? If it was the last few days, I should rush out to my rookery.

Great shots. Seriously, how did you deal with the lighting?

I also love that mating shot. I had a bird who spent the whole day like that: with his butt to me. His head only shot up a couple of times, but I missed it. I have lots on the computer, but they are butt shots. Your capture is gorgeous!

That first shot of the egret chicks is just toooooooo cute!!!! :clap

How lucky you are to have been able, not only to have seen the chicks, but to have photographed them too!

Definitely wall hangers!

I'm so glad you posted these!

Hi Ginger,
As i understand it the egrets will be hatching out over the next few weeks. I hope to get back there when the tri-colored herons have hatched.

I shot in Aperature mode and was changing the EV with just about every shot because the sun was harsh on the white egrets.

They are so CUTE! In watching them, I got the same feeling as when I went snorkling in the Keys the first time...A feeling like you have entered into another world. The birds are not phased at all by the people on the boardwalk. They just do what they do best and WOW what a show!
Harry and I spent the first hour at least in awe! I would never have been able to get a few good shots without hm helping me and reminding me to check my exposure! I can't wait to see what he got also! I still have many more cute ones of the chicks to PP....got sidetracked with shooting my niece's bridal shower this weekend..

To re-re-repeat, that last shot is really something special. Just the right exposure, great composition, and the light so rich.

Hey Trish,

Some more great shots. :clap You did very well. The lighting made for some extremely tough exposures.
